Another common Medigap plan is Plan G because of its affordability. This plan covers most of the main Medicare health expenses. Plan G can cut down on substantial charges that are not covered by Medicare itself. Medicare Supplement Plan G is a popular choice for covering the big expenses that Medicare doesn’t. It however does not include the Part B deductible. This should be taken into consideration before choosing a plan.

If you do not mind assuming risk for the Part B deductible then this could be the right plan for you.

Plan G includes coverage for Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B copayments and coinsurance, plus the Medicare Part A deductible, skilled nursing facility services, foreign travel emergencies, and more. There is also additional blood coverage, 365 Additional Days Hospitalization Coverage after Medicare benefits end, and Hospice Care coinsurance or copayment.

Plan G also includes coverage for home-based recovery care. Unlike Plan G, Plan F covers the yearly Medicare Part B deductible while also offering complete coverage for excess charges.

Plan G currently covers 80 percent of Medicare Part B excess charges. Beginning on June 1, 2010, 100 percent of these additional costs will be insured. However, the home based recovery coverage will also be eliminated. This service is being phased out as a part of Medicare modernization efforts. Medicare is eliminating At Home Recovery and Preventative coverage from all Medicare Supplement Plans. Hospice care is being added in its place, however. Hospice Care will be included in all Medicare Supplement plans as of 2010.

Plan G does not cover the Medicare Part B Deductible or Preventative Care not covered by Medicare.
